From The Beginning…

I was a bit skeptical about this book, since I’ve seen a lot of books like this in my years (17+) as a web developer online. But, I’m always looking for a good basic book that I can recommend to my clients who don’t want long-term consulting or who can’t afford it, so I decided to check it out. It’s a pretty good book. In fact, I’ve already recommended one of my clients (from my day job) purchase it, not for an eCommerce site, but for another site, just to learn a bit more of the promotions side of the internet, which Rob covers well. This book covers everything from the beginning of creating an eCommerce site. While it’s not exhaustive (it wouldn’t be possible), it covers a lot of options – enough for the average shop builder. And honestly choosing one shop or site type over another is NOT a key to success. I have my preferences, but even I know that using the system I prefer to develop with versus another system for a simple shop will not make or break a client (it’s all about the personal, IMO). That’s where Rob lost one star from me–the emphasis on choosing a niche. Yes, I know niches are hot topics. That’s OK.

Lots of useful information in this book for someone who is considering starting an online e-commerce site. I thought the section on how to find products and niche ideas was really useful. There are a lot of checklists and practical information that you can use to follow from start to finish. There’s a really good section on how to hire an ecommerce developer (and how to know when you should) as well as lots of details on how and when to outsource tasks. When it comes to internet marketing and online businesses there are a lot of e-books that are really just glorified pamphets. This is a “real” book that covers nearly every aspect of starting and running an online store. The only area that could have been covered in more detail is customer service and operation, but there was still some good info in that chapter.

This is an excellent book for anyone thinking about starting an e-commerce site. It covers all the bases and gives an in-depth look at what all is involved in such a venture. I particularly liked the informatoin on wholesalers and dropshippers. I also found the information on how to set up your credit card and shopping carts to be truly helpful. This book provides a conplete, yet concise look at all the angles you need to cover when opening an online store. If you are thinking aboaut opening an e-commerce site I highly recommend this book. I’m sure you’ll find it chock full of useful and helpful information. I know I did! Marg Ruttan

I am interested in starting an online ecommerce business but didn’t have a clue where to start. This book went into detail about what you need to do to set up as a small business and what licenses you would need. It explains the difference between wholesale and drop shipping which I didn’t even know existed. The marketing stuff was good to and helped me understand what SEO is and how you have to set up your website and do other stuff like social media and getting high quality links to help your site do better in the search engines. Some of the concepts were a little confusing but I thought they were presented very well. The information on finding what you should sell was probably the best information in the book, but it covered each area from start to finish. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about starting an e-commerce site.

THE place to start for opening an online store

I’ve been working in the internet marketing field for several years now and have to say this is the most thorough book I’ve seen on opening and running an online store. Most of the time people just say to get a shopping cart and add products. That simplistic approach falls far short of what you should do if you want to make it a profitable venture. This book covers everything I could think to put into a book like this – from planning to selecting suppliers and vendors, SEO, social media, you name it. The writing style wasn’t the easiest I’ve ever read but I understood it all. I would have liked to have seen some case studies too. For what it is at this price, it’s a great primer on the subject.

The author covers everything from setting up a legal entity, to niche research, determining profitability, dropshipping, sourcing products, setting up your online presence and much more. I’d love to have a pdf or hard copy for easier reference.

This book offers very valuable information in an easy to read format. I especially enjoyed the author’s sense of humor and recommendations about setting realistic expectations. There’s lots of information about keyword research, competitive analysis, great easy to follow examples of places you can use to do niche research. Excellent ideas on how to promote and market your store. He offers practical examples that are easy to understand and each chapter ends with “Take Action Now” – with easy steps to follow and stay on track. There are lots of examples of the software and tools you will need. It’s a full 175 pages long with lots of detail, the author does a great job taking a boring subject and making it entertaining. I highly recommend this book, it’s a one stop blueprint that will save you tons of frustration.

Outstanding resource for new and existing business owners alike
